Amberleigh
On
the road to Cheltenham lies a small village nestled between the
verdant Ackley Woods and the River Farrow. Coaches and riders on
horseback pass by, oblivious to the vivid, bustling life that is just
a stone’s throw away in Amberleigh. Thatched
cottages, farms, small homes and stately homes alike,
make up the diverse society of the village.
Amberliegh
is much the same as other villages, however, one aspect sets it
apart; it exists solely
in the minds of its creators. The concept of Amberleigh was borne from a love of the 18th
Century. It is populated by the ladies of the Swap-Bot group “At
Home with the Georgettes” who have endeavoured to embrace the
Georgian/Regency Era by creating personae
who experience, in a vicarious way, some
of the more mundane tasks of everyday life as
well as the entertainments of the period, which
has lead to our
burgeoning
community.
As
we swap and establish our 18th century personae,
the
need to order our creations, draw up maps and produce descriptions of
our little village so that each of us is able to see the progression
of Amberliegh and its surroundings became apparent. This, in turn,
allowed us to elaborate and collaborate without confusion or
repetition. The founders of the group endeavour to keep things in
context and strive to make our village historically correct, though
not being scholars, you will forgive our faux pas.
